Individual Psychotherapy and Psychotherapeutic Counselling

Psychotherapy: Do you feel lost? Unable to find your way back to yourself or as though part of you went missing some time ago, almost unnoticed? Are you fading slowly into your relationship, your job or your life? Anxious or depressed and unsure how to free yourself; frozen in indecision? Longing for your Soul to find you and show you the way home?

In psychotherapy we aim for a soft focus on the things that are affecting you while exploring their meaning and the changes you are being called to make. It may be that you are suffering from anxiety, depression, trauma, loss of meaning and joy, or loss of identity. You may not know or yet be able to articulate what the problem is.

By reflecting together on your past and looking gently at the present you can begin to heal. I will not sit there staring at you in silence; together we will draw on whatever call us, such as:

  • Psychological theory that helps to explain the dynamics of relationships, trauma, or psychological defences that have helped your psyche to endure.

  • Myth or story-telling to help us remember that our story is larger than just us; that our lives are lived in families and cultures, and at a specific time in history, sometimes the myth or stories we are drawn to hold the key to our healing.

  • Working with Dreams, which are often used by our unconscious to communicate what we already know, but don’t yet know that we know.

  • Movement and body sensations to help us release the suffering that sometimes gets held in our body as numbness or pain, or tension.

  • Our connection to non-human beings and the natural world; perhaps you have a much loved pet, or place in the country or near the sea that nurtures your soul, this work helps us to re-connect to our inner longing.

  • Energy healing - by working with the energy stored in our bodies we can release blocks that hider our healing.

    • By tuning into our bodies unique energy system we can regulate strong emotions, improve our energy boundaries with others, release fixed patterns of experiencing the world, heal trauma including that from childhood, acute events or even that rooted in past generations and tap into what our higher self already knows about problems or decisions we are facing.

By drawing on each of these sources of knowing, we can (together) discover the key to your personal healing.

Psychotherapeutic Counselling- often we have a specific issue or life event that needs attention, Now. We may be trying to complete a course of study, making a life changing decision, recovering from a major event, grieving the loss of someone or something special, experiencing isolation, or overwhelm or coping with on-going health issues or support someone else to do so. You do not have to do any of these things alone.

In psychotherapeutic counselling the focus is on receiving support for whatever is going on for you now. We will listen carefully to the whispering of your Soul which will show us the way. I will also draw on relevant counselling theory and offer insights that might help about things such as Will-power, decision making, how to effect change, or stages of grief. We may use simple CBT to create easy to follow plans. The main difference between psychotherapeutic counselling and psychotherapy is that in this approach we will remain focused on your current issue, and not spend too much time exploring the roots or origins of the issues you are facing, we will simply try to get you through…

What to expect

I offer clients a range of options and we can work together to decide what suits you best.

If you choose psychotherapy or psychotherapeutic counselling, we will meet once a week, either in person in my therapy room in Headington or on-line, Sometimes in therapy we cry, rage or feel anxious. Sometimes we will feel quiet or distant. We may even laugh! All emotions have a place and are welcome, please bring them. Relatively quickly and easily we will work out which of the approaches above works well for you and use them flexibly; some are active others more spacious.

If you choose to work only with Energy Healing we can work long term, integrating it into a broader psychotherapy approach, or use the methods as stand alone interventions on a more time-limited basis. We can explore what will be best for you in our introductory session.

I charge £75 per session.. I have lower cost places available for those on a low household income, please ask if you would like to know more.

My role may be to accompany you, to support you, or to sit with you. Perhaps I will draw attention to a small unnoticed blossoming or shift in your thinking. Maybe I will challenge you or engage in the struggle with you. Hopefully you will feel seen, heard and met.

In our introductory meeting we will discuss what is troubling you, practical matters such as cancelling sessions and taking breaks and I will talk a little about my commitment to ethical practice and confidentiality.
